• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nathan Skinner -- Great Read - Get to Know the Mythical Tesla : I have been a Tesla fan since I was in grade school but somehow had never read his autobiography until now. It's a great read and it is awesome to hear what he has to say straight from the source. He is an eloquent writer and organizes his thoughts very well. I felt like he was corresponding directly with me while reading this book. And, I learned things about him I had not read elsewhere. The book turns him from this mythical mad inventor and genius beyond humanity's capabilities into a real person. I read the book in two nights; it isn't very long and is interesting enough to binge read. I imagine many people will read the book in a single sitting. If you are a Tesla fan, absolutely read this book. Even if you are one of those boring and misinformed Edison fans, you'll dig this read. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2016 )

The explanations of his technical inventions are beyond me. But, as to his psychology, Tesla had a mind keen to observe himself, his thoughts, emotions, actions. He found that he was comparable to a machine driven by impressions coming from the outside. A discovery that would be applauded by Gurdjieff, Nicoll or Ouspensky: the discovery of one's mechanical behaviour as a fact is nothing less than realising one is asleep and it is the first step out of one's slumber. Contrary to most people, Tesla was not emotionally devastated by the fact that he was not in control of his life. He didn't try to cover it up, suppress it, nor deny it to himself or others. A true scientist to the core, he accepted it as a fact without further ado. If it is true, then it is, and so be it. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2016 )

This man was able to know a book by heart (every single word from Faust, for example) and prototyped motors in his head. Yeah, most impressive! Often the whole apparatus was working in his mind way before the trouble of prototyping it. For his delight, the ideas came in "flows" challenging his ability to handle it fast enough. His personality was obviously unique. He is not shy in the book in explaining and claiming his extraordinary intelligence. Hundreds of years ahead of his contemporaries such as Ford and Edison. Since it was written by Nikola Tesla himself, the spelling and usage of words is different than today and made it very interesting. This man was very underrated and accomplished a lot in his life. Some of his beliefs and experiences are very compelling. A quick read, fascinating real life story about a fascinating man that has literally changed mankind. His inventions and ideas lead one to believe that he was a genius but some of them might support the other theory. Is it because he was way ahead of his time?
